Two Couples, a Century Apart: The Thuillier Farm in Vignacourt
More than a century ago, Louis and Antoinette Thuillier photographed the Australian soldiers stationed in Vignacourt during the First World War. A century later, Donna and Michael Fiechtner, two retired Australian teachers, fell in love with the old Thuillier farm. They left Brisbane and settled in Vignacourt with a project that may sound a little crazy and yet is undoubtedly wonderful: rescue this historic home from ruin. Their adventure, full of twists and turns, will take readers up into the attic of the old farm, where a real treasure was discovered a few years ago. Donna and Michael are planning to turn the farm into a guesthouse with an adjoining café, creating a place where people can come together and remember. A story of a more than century-old friendship between France and Australia, where yesterday and today often blur.
